The management of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) has released the Admission Requirements for the Student of the institution.

The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, JOOUST Students applying to Undergraduates, Postgraduate, Diploma, Masters programs, etc must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for admission.

JOOUST Admission Requirements

General / Minimum Requirements

  • K.C.S.E. Mean grade C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in Maths and Physics or Physical Sciences; OR
  • Two Principal Passes in KACE and at least credit in Mathematics OR
  • Related Discipline From recognized institution OR
  • KCSE Mean Grade C- ( Minus) with KNEC Diploma in related field with a minimum credit pass. K.C.S.E.

Doctor of Philosophy

  • Master Degree in a relevant field from a recognized Institution

Master Degree

  • First Class Honours OR Second Honours Upper Division degree from accredited University OR
  • Second Class Honours, Lower Division Degree with at least two years of work/research experience in a relevant field after graduation.

Bachelor of Business Administration with IT

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) with C (Plain) in Mathematics or Commerce or Business Studies; OR
  • C-(Minus) with a KNEC Diploma or Diploma of JOOUST or any other accredited Institution.

Bachelor of International Tourism Management with IT

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C+(Plus) and a minimum of C (Plain) in English or Kiswahili; OR
  • Two Principal Passes and One(1) subsidiary in A-Level (KACE/EAACE); OR
  • Mean Grade C-(Minus) with a relevant KNEC Diploma OR Diploma from an accredited Institution.

Bachelor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C+(Plus) with C(Plain) in Mathematics OR
  • C-(minus) in Mathematics and C(Plain) in Commerce, Business Studies or Economics OR
  • Mean Grade C- (Minus) with a relevant KNEC Diploma OR
  • A Diploma from an accredited Institution.

Bachelor of Education (Special Needs Education) with IT

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) and a minimum of C+ (plus) in Biology; OR
  • Two Principal Passes and One (1) subsidiary in A-Level (KACE/EAACE) and Credit Pass in Biology at O Level; OR
  • Mean Grade C-(Minus) with a relevant KNEC Diploma OR
  • Diploma from an accredited University with a minimum of C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects.

Bachelor of Education (Arts) with IT

  • K.C.S.E Mean Grade: C+ (plus) and a minimum of C+ (plus) in any two teaching subjects. OR
  • mean grade of C-(Minus) plus a relevant KNEC Diploma or a Diploma from an accredited University OR
  • 2 Principal passes and 1 subsidiary OR
  • 1 Principal pass and 2 subsidiaries.

Bachelor of Education (Science)with IT

  • K.C.S.E Mean Grade: C+ (Plus) and a minimum of C+ (plus) in any Two teaching subjects. OR
  • mean grade of C- (Minus) plus a relevant KNEC Diploma OR
  • Diploma from an accredited University OR
  • 2 Principal passes and 1 subsidiary OR
  • 1 Principal pass and 2 subsidiaries.

Bachelor of Education ( Early Childhood Development and Education)

  • K.C.S.E. Mean Grade of C+(Plus) and a minimum of C(plain) in both English and mathematics OR
  • C-(Minus) plus a relevant KNEC Diploma OR
  • Diploma from accredited University in Early Childhood Development OR
  • 2 Principal Passes and 1 Subsidiary OR
  • 1 Principal Pass and 2 Subsidiaries.

Bachelor of Arts (Spatial Planning)

  • KCSE mean grade C+ and C+ ( Plus) in Geography or Maths or Agriculture OR
  • A C+ ( Plus) in any one of the Science subjects and C ( Plain) in English and Kiswahili.

Bachelor of Science (Water Resources and Environment Management

  • KCSE mean a grade of C+ and a minimum of C plus in Mathematics and C+ either or Biology or Chemistry or Physics or Physical Sciences and any of the Social Sciences OR a KNEC diploma or diploma from an accredited Institution.

Bachelor of Science (Agribusiness Management)

  • K.C.S.E. Mean Grade C+ and a minimum of C+(Plus) in Biology and Maths; C (Plain) in any two of the following- Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture, Business Studies and Geography; OR
  • KACE with two principal passes one of which must be Biology and one subsidiary pass; OR
  • C- with a Credit Diploma OR
  • Diploma from any other accredited institution.

Bachelor of Science ( Food Security)

  • K.C.S.E. Mean Grade C+ and a minimum of C+(Plus) in Biology and Maths; C (Plain) in any two of the following- Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture and Geography; OR
  • KACE with two principal passes one of which must be Biology and one subsidiary pass; OR
  • C- with a Credit Diploma OR
  • Diploma from any other accredited institution.

Bachelor of Science (Horticulture)

  • K.C.S.E. Mean Grade C+ and a minimum of C+(Plus) in Biology and Maths; C (Plain) in any two of the following- Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture and Geography; OR
  • KACE with two principal passes one of which must be Biology and one subsidiary pass; OR
  • C- with a Credit Diploma OR
  • Diploma from any other accredited institution

Bachelor of Science ( Soil Sciences)

  • K.C.S.E. Mean Grade C+ and a minimum of C+(Plus) in Biology and Maths; C (Plain) in any two of the following- Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture and Geography; OR
  • KACE with two principal passes one of which must be Biology and one subsidiary pass; OR
  • C- with a Credit Diploma OR
  • Diploma from any other accredited institution.

Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Extension and Education)

  • K.C.S.E. Mean Grade C+ and a minimum of C+(Plus) in Biology and Maths; C (Plain) in any two of the following- Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture and Geography; OR
  • KACE with two principal passes one of which must be Biology and one subsidiary pass; OR
  • C- with a Credit Diploma OR
  • Diploma from any other accredited institution.

Bachelor of Science ( Animal Science)

  • K.C.S.E. Mean Grade C+ and a minimum of C+(Plus) in Biology and Maths; C (Plain) in any two of the following- Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture and Geography; OR
  • KACE with two principal passes one of which must be Biology and one subsidiary pass; OR
  • C- with a Credit Diploma OR
  • Diploma from any other accredited institution.

Bachelor of Science (Actuarial Sciences)with IT

  • KCSE Mean Grade C + (Plus) with C+ (Plus) in Mathematics; OR
  • A level with 2 Principal passes one of which must be Mathematics and One Subsidiary Pass; OR
  • KCSE Mean Grade C (Plain) with a Diploma of at least Credit Pass or Higher or Higher Diploma in Mathematics related fields from recognized examination board/institution; OR
  • BSc in Mathematics related fields from accredited institutions.

Bachelor of Science (Biological Sciences)

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) with C+ (Plus) in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and C+ (Plus) in English or Kiswahili. OR
  • 2 principals and 1 subsidiary at A level OR holders of relevant KNEC Diploma from accredited University.

Bachelor of Science (Community Health and Development)

  • KCSE Mean Grade C+ (plus) and C plain in Biology/Biological Sciences and Chemistry, C- (Minus) in Mathematics OR
  • Physics and C (Plain) in English OR
  • Kiswahili; 2 Principal pass and 1 subsidiary at A-Level; OR
  • KCSE Mean Grade C-(Minus) with KNEC Diploma with a minimum credit pass OR
  • Diploma from an accredited Institution.

Bachelor of Science( Public Health)

  • KCSE Mean Grade C+ (plus) and C + (plus) in Biology/ Biological Sciences and Chemistry/ Physical Sciences, C+ (plus) in Mathematics/ Physics and C+ (Plus) in English/ Kiswahili. 2 Principal pass and 1 subsidiary at A-Level OR
  • Holders of relevant KNEC Diploma OR
  • Diploma from accredited institution/ University.

Bachelor of Science (Computer Security and Forensics)

  • KCSE Mean Grade C+(Plus) with C (Plain) in Mathematics and Physics or Physical Sciences OR
  • 2 Principal pass and 1 subsidiary at A-Level one of which should be Maths or Physics; KCSE Mean Grade C-(Minus) with KNEC Diploma in Computer Studies with a minimum credit pass OR
  • Diploma from an accredited Institution.

Bachelor of Science (Information, Communication and Technology)

  • KCSE Mean Grade C+(Plus) with C- (Minus) in Mathematics and Physics or Physical Sciences OR
  • 2 Principal pass and 1 subsidiary at A-Level one of which should be Maths or Physics; OR
  • KCSE Mean Grade C-(Minus) with KNEC Diploma in IT related field with a minimum credit pass OR
  • Diploma from an accredited institution.

Bachelor of Science (Business Information Systems)

  • KCSE Mean Grade C+(Plus) with C- (minus) in Mathematics, English and Business Studies OR
  • 2 Principal pass and 1 subsidiary at A-Level one should be Maths or Economics; OR
  • KCSE Mean Grade C- ( Minus) with KNEC Diploma in IT related field with a minimum credit pass OR
  • Diploma from an accredited institution.

Bachelor of Science( Renewable Energy Technology and Management)

  • K.C.S.E. Mean grade C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in Maths and Physics or Physical Sciences; OR
  • Two Principal Passes in KACE and at least credit in Mathematics OR
  • Related Discipline From recognized institution OR
  • KCSE Mean Grade C- ( Minus) with KNEC Diploma in related field with a minimum credit pass.

Bachelor of Science (Construction Management)

  • K.C.S.E. Mean grade C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in Maths and Physics or Physical Sciences OR
  • Two Principal Passes in KACE and at least credit in Mathematics OR
  • GHve a KNEC Diploma or Higher Diploma in Construction Management, Building Technology, Civil Engineering or Related Discipline From a recognized institution.

Bachelor of Arts (Developmental and Policy Studies)

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) and C+ (Plus) in English or Kiswahili, Plus C+ in any one Natural Sciences and C+ in any one Arts related subjects; OR
  • KCSE Mean Grade of C- (Minus) plus a relevant KNEC Diploma from an accredited Institution.

Bachelor of Arts (International Relations and Diplomacy) with IT

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) with C+ in English or Kiswahili or a Foreign language; OR
  • KCSE Mean Grade of C- (Minus) plus a relevant KNEC Diploma from an accredited Institution.

Diploma in Special Needs Education

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C-(Minus) and a minimum of C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects; OR
  • D+ (Plus) in a relevant certificate from an accredited institution.

Diploma in Business Administration

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C-(Minus) with a minimum of D+ in Maths or Business Studies and D+ in English or Kiswahili; OR
  • D+ (Plus) with a relevant certificate from an accredited institution.

Diploma in Community Health and Development

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C – (Minus) with a minimum of D+ in Maths or Chemistry or Physics or Physical Sciences OR
  • D+ (Plus) with relevant Certificate qualification from an accredited Institution.

Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering

  • K.C.S.E . Mean grade C-(minus) and with at least C-(minus) in Maths and Physics and at least D+ in English and Chemistry; OR
  • D+ (Plus) with relevant Certificate qualification from an accredited Institution.

Diploma in County Governance

  • KCSE Mean Grade C-( Minus) with C- (Minus) in English or Kiswahili; OR
  • D+ (Plus) or KACE Division III with relevant Certificate qualification from accredited Institution

Certificate

  • KCSE Mean Grade of D+ (Plus).

Registration Requirements

    • All examinations shall be conducted under the authority of the Senate as specified under various rules and regulations.
    • To be eligible to take University examinations every candidate shall pay to the University in respect of the examinations such fees as the Council shall prescribe from time to time.
    •   Only students who have registered for scheduled courses within the first two (2) weeks of the semester and fulfilled all other requirements shall be eligible for taking examinations.
    • To be eligible to sit for end of semester examinations, candidates must be registered in the course being examined, obtain clearance from the Finance Officer and must have attended 70% of the unit teaching time in a semester
    • There shall be internal and external examiners of the University appointed by the Senate upon the recommendation of the Boards of Schools/Institute, who shall prepare examinations and examine students in papers assigned to them by the School/Institute.
    •   Final examination marks shall be agreed upon between the internal and external examiners.
    • Provided that where no such agreement can be reached the chief examiner concerned shall make the final decision.
    • In the case of re-marking, a moderator may be appointed from within or outside the University who had no part in teaching the candidate(s) in the subject for the paper under examination.
    • Subject to approval by the Senate, departments may establish Moderating Committees chaired by the Chairperson of the department and consisting of senior academic staff who shall moderate the examinations.
    • A student shall be permitted to proceed to the next year of study, provided he/she re-sits the courses failed when next offered.

In the event of any alleged examination irregularity, the Senate shall appoint a committee that shall investigate the alleged irregularity. Any person involved in the alleged irregularity shall be required to appear before the Committee. The Chairperson of the Examination Irregularity Committee shall then report the findings of the Committee to the Vice-Chancellor who on behalf of the Senate shall decide what further action may be necessary. The Committee’s report and the action of the Vice-Chancellor shall be presented to the Senate.
